Patient Listening
Worship Service: Informal Family - October 24, 2021
When the Lord visited Mary and Martha in their home, Mary sat and listened but Martha was "distracted with much serving." (Luke 10: 38-42) What if food had been served a little late that evening? Can we be content with the passage of time and patiently listen? | By Rev. Kurt Hyland Asplundh | Bryn Athyn Heilman Hall

Worship Service: Sermon only - August 22, 2021
King Solomon's material wealth and worldwide reputation for wisdom are described in fascinating detail in the Word. What might those descriptions tell us about our modern world and why did the Lord say none of it compared to a blossoming flower? | By Rev. Kurt Hyland Asplundh | Bryn Athyn Cathedral

Challenging Kindness

Remembering and Not Forgetting
Worship Service: Informal Family - March 22, 2020
The Word has many passages that talk about "remembering" or "not forgetting." In the story of Noah's Ark, "remembering" is mentioned 3 times. How are "remembering" or "not forgetting" different? How are they the same? What should we be remembering? The video version of this service is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqkrXDj7wCM | By Rev. Christmas Times of Day
Doctrinal Class - December 04, 2019
A 3 class series: Christmas Eve, Christmas Morning, Christmas Day. In our celebration of the Lord's advent, many of our traditions are attached to specific times-of-day. Times-of-day have spiritual meanings which relate in significant ways to prophecies, stars and doctrines about the Lord's birth into the world. Some discussion not included. | By Rev. Kurt Hyland Asplundh | Bryn Athyn Cathedral Social Hall

Uplifted
Worship Service: Informal Family - November 17, 2019
I've been especially interested these days in the idea that there are things we find “uplifting.” We'll all have different ideas about what they are, but maybe we'd all agree with the words of King David in the last verse of the 28th Psalm, where he prays that the Lord “lift His people up forever.” It might also be worth considering what David says earlier in that psalm, where he talks about “going down into the pit,” kind of the opposite of being uplifted. But the Lord can't lift us up without cooperation on our part. We might even try, as if on our own, to lift ourselves up. The story of the man at the Pool of Bethesda in John 5 is a good illustration of that. In the Levitical blessing (at the end of Numbers 6), we ask the Lord to “lift up His countenance” upon us. What might that actually be like? | By Rev. Kurt Hyland Asplundh | Bryn Athyn Heilman Hall
